Cititor atent, fin si afin al lui Gogol, Caragiale, Thomas Mann sau Mihail Bulgakov, Virgil Duda se numara printre putinii care mai stiu astazi la noi sa introduca un diavol, un demon in literatura, bineinteles pe furis, fara s-o recunoasca, prefacandu-se definitiv cantonati - spre indignarea celor ce se lasa astfel pacaliti - in banalitatea existentei cotidiene. Complicitatea fantasticului se face de la o vreme tot mat simtita in proza lui Virgil Duda, pana la un punct al evolutiei ei voit “cenusie”, deliberat “marunta”, ostentativ “sufocanta”.
